Toyota beats GM to become the world’s largest automaker

After a really tough 2008, it’s no surprise that General Motors has sold fewer cars than Toyota on a global scale. However that makes Toyota officially the world’s largest automaker for the first time.

After a really tough 2008, it’s no surprise that General Motors has sold fewer cars than Toyota on a global scale. However that makes Toyota officially the world’s largest automaker for the first time.


GM fell short by 616,000 vehicles announcing that it sold a total of 8.356 million cars and trucks in 2008. Toyota, on the other hand, sold a total of 8.972 million.



Toyota’s sales fell by 4 percent while GM faced an 11 percent drop.
